Richmond Property Style & History

In comparison to Central London, Richmond developed relatively late, being open countryside until Henry VII built Richmond Palace there and named the area after Richmond in Yorkshire. It remained largely agricultural aside from the popular royal residence and hunting park (now Richmond Park) until the 18th and 19th centuries when many grand period houses were built as the area became popular with aristocracy. As with most of South West London the real development and growth of the area came with the introduction of the railway in 1846. Today a happy blend of town and country Richmond property features a lot of attractive Georgian and Victorian architecture. Richmond hill and the roads situated nearby contain many desirable family period houses, whilst apartments at The Terrace at the top of Richmond Hill enjoy some of the most far reaching views in London. Petersham also has a great collection of Georgian houses and cottages. Safe to say there is something for everyone in Richmond.
