Stockwell Property Style & History
Until the 19th century, Stockwell was a rural manor on the edge of London and technically forming part of Surrey, with market and botanical gardens with the epicentere of St Stephen’s church. It wasn’t until the 19th century that it developed into an elegant, middle class suburb. The second world war hit Stockwell hard, with many of the historic buildings being destroyed. The area around Stockwell tube had to be completely rebuilt in the 1920s, with much of it then having to be re-housed in 1971 when the Victoria line was created.
Transport From Stockwell
Tube: Stockwell station is on both the Victoria and Northern Line, linking the area to Moorgate in 15 minutes.
Rail: Thameslink services run through Clapham High Street station which is just a short walk away.
Bus: Stockwell is well served for buses, with routes 44 (Victoria), 67 (Kingston), 77 (Waterloo), 345 (Elephant & Castle), and 355 (Brixton) all passing through the area. There are also several night buses available.
Cycle: Stockwell is on the CS7 cycle superhighway, creating a fast route into the city.
Road: Stockwell is incredibly well connected by Road, following the northern line route and with the South Coast just an hour and a half away.
Getting away: Gatwick and Heathrow airports are less than an hour away by road or public transport.
